Legend has it that the story of Lamborghini has its roots in a dispute in the early 1960s between Ferruccio Lamborghini and Enzo Ferrari. Ferruccio, a successful tractor entrepreneur and avid luxury car collector, frequently burned the clutch in his Ferrari 250 GT, leading him to make regular visits to Ferrari to replace it.
After several visits, Ferruccio decided to replace the clutch himself with his tractor mechanic. Upon disassembling the engine, they discovered that the clutch was identical to the ones used in his tractors. Outraged, Ferruccio confronted Enzo Ferrari, accusing him of building his sports cars with tractor parts. Offended, Ferrari responded that a tractor manufacturer couldn’t understand his sports cars and that the problem was Ferruccio’s inability to drive a Ferrari properly. This angered Ferruccio even more, who then vowed to build his own sports cars to show Enzo how it should be done, thereby challenging Ferrari’s dominance.
